화가 된 자의 꿈 “저 빛들은 어디서 오는 걸까?” 외진 산골 소년이던 나는 밤하늘의 유성과 별들을 바라보며 상상하곤 하였다. 그 답에 대한 열망이 나를 장래의 화가로 키워냈다. 한 사람의 화가로서 나는 동양화와 서양화의 기법을 탐험하며 우주의 본성에 가 닿고자, 또 표현해 내고자 노력해 왔다. 그 과정은 마음의 안으로 파고들어가 자아의 본성을 찾아가는 일이기도 하였다. 나는 바라건대, 천지의 창조와 우주 삼라만상의 근원을 탐구해 가는 신표현주의 작가로 자리매김 되고 싶다.

그러한 추구 위에서, 나는 한국 전통의 오방 색(흑, 백, 황, 적, 청)을 가지고 못과 손을 써서 실험적인 작업을 하였다. 이러한 작업들은 동양의 음양오행 사상, 즉 음과 양으로 부터 하늘과 땅이 생겨 났으며, 다시 하늘과 땅의 기운으로 부터 목·화·토·금·수의 오행이 생성되고 그 순환 속에 삼라만상이 생겨났다고 하는 섭리에 기초하고 있다.

나는 여전히 자아의 참된 모습을 찾는 길 위에 있다. 그리고 믿건대, 우리 마음 속의 빛은 우주만상이 품은 빛과 만날 때 하나의 조화로운 세상, ‘우주’의 빛으로 점화 될 수 있다. 이것이 화가로서 내가 하는 일이며 나의 작품들을 통해 말하고자 하는 바이다.

이러한 모색의 길 위에서, 나는 내 안의 우주에서 울려오는 감성적인 또는 정신적인 소리들을 담아 추상회화들로 옮겨내고자 한다.

My dream as a painter “Where is the light of the universe coming from?” I, a little secluded countryside boy, imagined, staring at the shooting stars and stars. The desire for the answer made me dream the future of a painter. As a painter, I have tried to reach and express the nature of the universe, experiencing and experimenting East and West paintings. And this has been a process of digging into my mind and seeking the nature of myself. I would like to consider me a Neo-Expressionist on the way of questioning the origin of the universe and the Creation.

On the pursuit, I have experimented Korea Traditional Five Colors(Obang colors; black, white, yellow, red, and blue) with nails and hands. My work is based on the oriental Yin – Yang and Five Elements Theory. The Yin – Yang and Five Elements Theory is a theory that the energy of the universe has been created from Yin and Yang, which have formed heaven and earth, and five branches of wood, fire, earth, gold, and water.

I am, still, seeking for the image of true self. And I believe in the cosmos, sparked when the light of our minds encounters with the light of the universe. This is the works that I do.

In these experimental ways, I pursue abstract paintings carrying emotional and mental voices of inner universe.
